The Country Universities Centre (CUC) is a not-for-profit organisation

At Country Universities Centre Far West (CUC Far West) we believe that the future of an aspiring student should not be determined by where he or she lives.

The establishment of CUC Far West, in partnership with the Country Universities Centre, provides opportunities for local students to participate in supported Higher Education and achieve their educational aspirations from their home town.

Local students now have access to a high tech supervised facility, tutorial and mentoring support and  access to a network of like-minded students in our campus like environment.

CUC Far West has been established through a partnership with Regional Development Australia Far West, The Broken Hill Community Credit Union and the Far West community with financial support from the NSW State Government. CUC Far West is locally governed, and is empowered with the flexibly to adapt to fit our community needs.

With the aim to facilitate positive teaching and learning experiences at a tertiary level, CUC Far West provides a purpose built, modern, well equipped facility, conducive to study. Facilities include:
• A state of the art Study Room equipped with desktop computers
• Lecture Room with VC facilities
• Tutorial Room with VC facilities
• Meeting Room with VC facilities
• FREE wireless internet access throughout and charging points for BYO devices
• Printing, photocopying and scanning facilities
• Mobile interactive whiteboard
• Display boards and community Nnoticeboard
• Full kitchen facilities
• Dining area and booth seating
• Breakout common area

At the Country Universities Centre Far West, we work with communities to bring higher education degrees closer.

CUC Far West delivers on the need to provide local higher education opportunities for regional and rural communities:

  • Students can remain living in the local area while undertaking further education
  • Obtaining a university education is potentially cheaper for students who can be academically and administratively supported by the CUC Far West and no longer have to relocate and find expensive accommodation in distant urban or large regional centres ;
  • The CUC Far West is an additional participant in the educational community of local schools, TAFE and RTO’s, and an interface between students (current and past) and local employers of graduates;
  • Students can design university research tasks around local challenges and opportunities, to the benefit of the whole community.
